Gabriel M. Jones entered the GIS profession after careers in education and journalism. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History, Political Science, and Russian and East European Studies and a Master of Arts in Social Studies Secondary Education from the University of Kentucky before completing a GIS certificate at Bluegrass Community and Technical College.

Gabriel began his GIS career in 2007 as the Mapping Clerk for the Property Valuation Administrator's Office in McCreary County, Kentucky. He later joined the private sector in Louisville, where his work focused primarily on GIS support for cross-bore natural gas risk detection programs. He earned his GISP certification in 2018.

Committed to professional service, Gabriel served on the McCreary County Educational Heritage Foundation and Tourism Commission and helped revive the Kentuckiana regional GIS users group before relocating to Iowa. He has worked for Muscatine Power and Water since 2019 and looks forward to supporting collaboration and professional development within Iowa's GIS community.

Before entering GIS, Gabriel worked as a reporter for the Scott County News, where a feature he wrote about a Holocaust survivor speaking to local students received a Tennessee Press Association award. Outside of work, he has taught medieval and Renaissance European dance. He and his wife, Terri, live in Muscatine with their two cats.
