LinksGIS Kids: Slieshow / Activities / and More!GIS Kids is sponsored by the Palm Beach (FL) Countywide GIS Forum, the goal is to inform and educate K-12 students about GIS technology. Professionals who use this technology in the government sector, utilities, private industry, and many other fields often cooperate to share data, trade ideas, and accomplish things that were not thought possible a few years ago. This effort is another example of this cooperation... made especially for kids! MidAmerica GIS Consortium, Ltd. (MAGIC)The MidAmerica GIS Consortium, Ltd. is a nonprofit educational organization established to foster the applications of geographic information systems (GIS) and related spatial technologies in the mid-continent region. We can, however, identify various indicators of drought, and tracking these indicators provides us with a crucial means of monitoring drought. Determining which indicators to use poses more difficulties for planners: should they rely on data collected for specific parameters (such as streamflow and snowpack), or should they select one or more indices, which incorporate and weigh various types of data in various combinations? Equally important in choosing these indicators is a consideration of the type or types of water shortage facing the planner—an index or parameters well suited to agricultural concerns are of limited use to urban planners. Understanding the historical frequency, duration, and spatial extent of drought also assists planners in determining the likelihood and potential severity of future droughts. The characteristics of past droughts provide benchmarks for projecting similar conditions into the future. MapServerMapServer is an OpenSource development environment for constructing spatially enabled Internet-web applications USDA Geospatial Data GatewayThe Geospatial Data Gateway or Geo-Data Gateway provides easy and consistent access to natural resource data. You can search for available data by geographic area such as county or state, use our point and click map tool to find your area of interest; using a gazetteer, or by entering latitude and longitude coordinates. You can also search for data by theme, such as digital ortho imagery, digital elevation models (DEMs), or soils. You can then view a thumbnail, or sample of the data you've chosen to know if you want a copy of the data. If you do, you can either download the data directly onto your machine, pick it up via our FTP site, or order it on media such as CD. Document Actions |
