What's new on the Iowa Geographic Map Server
The Iowa Geographic Map Server (IGMS) from the Iowa State University GIS Facility, provides free access to Iowa geographic map data through an on-line map viewer and through GIS web map services. Here's a look at the recent additions to the IGMS.

1800s General Land Office Survey Map of Iowa. The U.S. Public Land Survey was conducted in Iowa from 1836 through 1859. The source of the images on the IGMS are scanned microfilm of plats from the State Archives. These plats represent maps drawn from the original field notes by the Surveyor General's Dubuque office. This data was provided by the Iowa DNR Geological Survey Bureau and Office of the State Archaeologist. Status map>>
2007 high-resolution orthophotos for northwest Iowa. The Iowa Geographic Information Council received a grant from the US Geological Survey that provided high-resolution orthophotos for a 16 county area of northwest Iowa. The aerial photos were collected in the spring of 2007. The 2-foot pixel orthophotos are 4-band which allows them to be viewed as natural color, or as color infrared. A portion of the imagery has been received and is available on the Iowa Geographic Map Server. Status map>>
Statewide 2007 Orthophotos.The USDA National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) acquires imagery during the agricultural growing seasons in the continental U.S. The Iowa imagery is a natural color orthophoto mosaics from aerial photos taken in June - October 2007. The maximum resolution of this imagery is 2 meters. Status map>>
