IT Chief Receives HonorDes Moines' chief information technology officer has won a national award given to officials who work with computer systems.
Michael Armstrong was awarded the Distinguished Information Sciences Award by the Association of Information Technology Professionals, which has about 7,000 members across the nation.
Armstrong has worked for Des Moines for about seven years and helped with many of the city’s computer and Web programs.
The award was established in 1969. Recipients have included Reform Party founder Ross Perot and Microsoft’s Bill Gates.
