Objectives

The objectives of IGIC shall be:
 
Section 1
 
  To coordinate the management of statewide geographic information and provide guidance and direction in the management of a statewide geographic information system
 
Section 2
 
  To identify, make known and recommend actions to meet automated geographic information needs in the State of Iowa.
 
Section 3
 
  To act as a clearinghouse for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) information and expertise in Iowa.
 
Section 4
 
  To formulate and recommend standards for data architecture, quality, accuracy, resolution and maintenance. To formulate and recommend metadata standards based upon a widely accepted version of the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) metadata standards and to assist Iowans with metadata development and enhancement.
 
Section 5  
  To promote voluntary sharing of geographic information by recommending and developing model agreements, publishing directories and newsletters and performing other appropriate information-sharing actions
 
Section 6  
  To serve as a focal point for intergovernmental efforts to receive additional funds, especially federal funds, for GIS development in Iowa.
